Imagine that you're 38 weeks' pregnant and living in your car. You're so scared that your baby will be taken away from you when you give birth because you don't have somewhere safe to live. All you want for Christmas is a safe home, that you can care for your newborn baby in. This was Lily's* reality. Lily was living in her car, about to give birth to her son, Harrison*, and she had nothing. While trying to escape family violence, she had lost everything. Lily had no cot. No food. No family. No safety. Safety takes more than four walls. It takes a village. Specialised counselling. Legal Aid. Access to basic essentials. Hobart Women's Shelter provides safe, emergency accommodation and support to women and children affected by family violence and/or those experiencing homelessness.
