Let us take a moment to feel the land beneath our feet and look to Kunanyi/Mount Wellington (kuh-narn-yee) above us, holding memory, story, and loss.
We acknowledge the Muwinina (moo-we-nin-ah) people, the Traditional Owners of the land on which our Shelter stands, who did not survive colonisation. Today, we remember them.
We pay our respects to the Palawa/Pakana (puh-lah-wah / pah-kah-nah) people, who are the continuing custodians of Muwinina country.
We honour Aboriginal women and their families, who have carried the weight of intergenerational grief and trauma through colonisation, dispossession, and the stolen generations. Despite this injustice, they have been and continue to be the backbone of their Communities, holding culture, family, and truth with strength, dignity, and love.
For more than 50 years, Hobart Women’s Shelter has offered safety, support, and shelter to women and children facing violence and homelessness.
We acknowledge and value the lived experiences of the women we walk alongside. We commit to ensuring our Shelter remains a place of welcome, healing, and renewal for all women, with deep respect for Aboriginal people, their stories, and their enduring connection to Country.
Hobart Women's Shelter provides safe, emergency accommodation and support to women and children affected by family violence and/or those experiencing homelessness.
