Can you help us to build homes for women and children in need?
Since July 2020, 7 out of 10 women and 8 out of 10 children had to be turned away from HWS due to a lack of space. This is over 1000 women and children with nowhere to go.
The Hobart Women's Shelter (HWS) will mark 50 years of service to the women and children of Tasmania in 2024. We are the 2nd oldest Women’s Shelter in Australia and we need your help to continue our important work within the community.
Our core business is providing safe, emergency accommodation and support to women and children who are affected by family violence and those who are homeless.
We strive to create a safe and inclusive community free from homelessness, violence, inequality and injustice.
Domestic violence occurs when one person in a relationship uses abusive methods to exert power and control over the other
Australia has a choice. We can change the story that currently sees a woman murdered every week by a current or former partner.
We can choose a future where women and their children live free from violence.
Hobart Women’s Shelter aims to empower women and children to lead independent and fulfilling lives and envisions that all women and their children live in a community free from violence and injustice.
